The Government released a health reform bill effective as of April 1, 2019 where Natural Therapy is ineligible for private health insurance rebates. Unfortunately, Pilates was included in this category. The government however recognised that the use of exercises drawn from Pilates is acceptable and within the scope of Physiotherapy.
In order to claim Pilates classes with your Private Health Insurance – it must be conducted by a Physiotherapist, and there must be a 1-1 session which is the Initial Assessment prior to the commencement of the group therapy program.
If you are in the process of claiming your Pilates classes with your Private Health Insurance, please ensure that you’ve had an assessment or re-assessment at least once in the last 6 months or during the period of your cover with your PHI. If you’re unsure, please ask Reception and we can have a look at your Accounts to ensure you’ve had a 500 or a 505 code used during this period.
If at any stage you have issues in claiming with your PHI over the next few weeks or months, please don’t hesitate to bring back your tax invoice to Reception. Click here to download the APA brochure regarding the changes to Private Health Insurance Cover.
